PORT
HUENEME
Just
south of Oxnard is Port Hueneme, the largest deep-water
port in California between Long Beach and Oakland. The city
is also endowed with gorgeous beaches, parks, a fishing
pier, and fine restaurants. No one should miss the CEC and
SeaBee Museum, which presents the story of the U.S. Navy’s
SeaBees and Civil Engineers, including a collection of uniforms,
weapons, and other artifacts. The museum is located at the
Port Hueneme Construction Battalion Center, Building 99,
1000 23rd Avenue (off of Ventura Road at Sunkist Gate, 805-982-
5165). The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am–4pm;
admission is free, but proper identification and advance
reservations are required.
