CAMBRIA
The tiny village of Cambria was born in the 1860s when William Leffingwell built the area’s first sawmill. At that time Cambria was an active seaport and whaling station.Mining, dairy farming, and ranching soon followed as the city matured. Remnants of its rich past remain for you to see and experience.

This is an inviting seaside community where you can relax, play, and discover. Art, wine, food…whatever your getaway dreams, Cambria can bring them together for you in harmony and style.

Cambria’s distinctive country setting is magical. Towering pines frame a dramatic coastline where you can hike, dive, windsurf, beach-comb and bird-watch. Or just linger at the water’s edge and soak up an intoxicating sunset at spectacular Moonstone Beach or Leffingwell Landing. The lasting beauty will keep you coming back for years.

Make your visit more memorable by heading out for a day trip. Tour the legendary Hearst Castle State Historic Monument, local “pick-your-own” fruit farms, and nearby vineyards and wineries. Fully restored historic sites such as The Old Schoolhouse, the Squibb House, and the Santa Rosa Chapel retain the best of Cambria’s past. Santa Rosa Chapel, circa 1860, still holds weddings by candlelight for the romantic at heart.

Keep watch for all sorts of land and marine wildlife. Cambria is the southern end of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary—a special place. This area is a wildlife refuge for the once nearly extinct sea otter. Sea lions and elephant seals can be seen sunning on rock reefs and majestic grey whales migrate past the shores seasonally.

The nightlife is as captivating as the wildlife. Take in an original theater production at the tiny playhouse. Enjoy the best in live music. Or stop in at the local saloon for a dance and relive some of Cambria’s colorful past.

Cambria is a collector’s haven.Whether your passion is for fine art or antiques, miniatures or seashells, you’ll find treasures at every turn. And if you’re ready for one of the great shopping adventures of all time, you’ve come to the right place. The galleries and specialty shops are world-class.
